Rebecca Withers is a social worker and health care manager, living on the traditional territory of the Tla’amin Nation with her husband and two children. Rebecca is a white settler with English and Scottish roots and has been working in the field of mental health/substance use since 2006. Rebecca has five years of experience working in a leadership capacity within the health care system and currently works as clinical operations manager in Mental Health and Substance Use Services. She has a health-focused Masters of Social Work from the University of Waterloo with a specialization in health care inequities for people who are Indigenous. Additionally, Rebecca has a Bachelor of Social Work and is a recipient of the ‘Social Work Award of Excellence’ from the Alberta College of Social Workers.
Rebecca has direct experience working in rural and remote Indigenous communities with a demonstrated ability to build rapport and connection with communities, staff, and key stakeholders in a way that supports cultural safety. Over the last four years, Rebecca has focused her career to develop a deep understanding of the on-going impacts that colonialism has had on the social determinants of health for Indigenous people and is passionate about improving the delivery of culturally safe Mental Health and Substance Use services to the Indigenous communities that she is honoured to work alongside.
Rebecca excels in the areas of program development and implementation, operational knowledge of the health care system, and has a strong capacity to build and foster relationships. She brings significant clinical knowledge as it relates to mental health and substance use and utilizes evidence-based practices in her work to lead system level change. Outside of work and family life, Rebecca enjoys mountain biking, gardening, and spending time near the water or in the woods.
