Gender Inclusivity
A.J. Lowik is an inclusivity consultant living and working on the traditional, unceded territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation. As a trans scholar with degrees in Sociology, Gender Studies, and Sexuality Studies, they are passionate about inclusive research design and praxis. A.J works with clinicians, researchers, law makers, policy makers, and community workers to ensure that their projects are meaningfully inclusive of intersex, trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit, and queer people.
They have extensive experience designing and conducting health research in the areas of sexual and reproductive health, mental health, substance use, and primary care. They are committed to inclusive research, policy, and practice, helping clients to design projects that are inclusive at every stage, from conception to completion.
A recent highlight of A.J.’s work is project managing the development of gender equity and sexual health research toolkits. These self-guided tools will be used by researchers at various stages of study design, data collection, analysis, and writing to ensure that their research includes sex and gender variables in ways that reflect the complexity of these concepts, and that their research is inclusive of sexual and gender-minority populations who have historically been erased and ignored by researchers.
